The 2012 Pisa Range Estate ‘Black Poplar Block’ Pinot Noir was one of only six wines to be awarded DOUBLE GOLD in the Pinot Noir category at 2014 Six Nations Wine Challenge held in Sydney last week.

“It’s an honour just to be selected by a Master of Wine to represent your country for this competition, but to be awarded a DOUBLE GOLD medal by the six Judges tasting the wine blind is especially rewarding” said Pisa Range Estate Owner, Warwick Hawker. “We feel very fortunate to have a special site within our small vineyard in Central Otago. Our Pisa sub-region’s soils, microclimate, together with vineyard practices all combine to produce fine pinot noir that consistently receives recognition here in New Zealand and overseas with every vintage. 2015 will be the 20th anniversary of the establishment of this vineyard and we can’t wait to see what the Black Poplar Block is going to produce over the next 20 years” he said.

The Six Nations Wine Challenge only includes wines from Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA and is by “ invitation only” from the six judges – one representing each nation.

“The icing on the cake this year, is also knowing our wine has contributed to New Zealand taking out the 2014 Six Nations – Nation of Show and we want to congratulate the New Zealand Judge Bob Campbell MW on this award.” Warwick Hawker said. Nation of Show is calculated on the overall aggregate scores in all categories across the six countries.
