Premium Barossa Red wines from Charles Melton are crafted to reflect the rhythm of the seasons, the richness of our earth and the quiet patience of its people.

Charles Melton has been producing premium Barossa red wines, always at winery on Krondorf Road, since 1984. It was in the mid 80’s that Charlie and a small band of Barossa winemakers turned their winemaking efforts to what was considered then a couple of unfashionable varieties; Shiraz and Grenache.

Originally from Sydney but now a Barossa icon, Charlie moved to the valley as a young lad in 1974 and now has over 35 years winemaking experience in the Barossa.

Charlie initially spent time as an apprentice to Peter Lehmann, becoming familiar with the capabilities of the region’s fruit.

With these varieties, Charlie built a small range of classic dry reds including a Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre blend called the Nine Popes. These wines were initially styled on those from the Rhone but are now considered leading examples of the varieties in their own right.
